I really say this every time we get a basket, but it really is true this was a good Conventional Basket.
This contribution period I went home with 9 avocados. (3 in my conventional basket, then a combination of ones given from people that didn’t want theirs and also my extra item for volunteering. Yep that’s kind of a lot for this house, but I’m ok with that.
I made this first recipe last winter one of the times we had avocados in our basket, and it is AMAZING……
Way back in 2011/2012 I would frequent a local eatery (Ben Lee’s Café in Worthington) located about 20 minutes from us with who ever would go there with me (I went with a lot of different people) I was pregnant with my daughter and craving their Grilled cheese with Avocadoes and Tomatoes.
In my conventional basket I have 1 nice sized beet, while taking to my husband he mentioned that he got a few more beets from a co-worker(a plump-full plastic bag.) We might be having beets a few times this week.
Another idea, use your beet(s). Make a delicious bowl of hummus, wouldn’t that be yummy with some of the mini-cucumbers you also got in your conventional basket??
This is our first time getting blackberries in our conventional basket since I started contributing in November 2014. We are new to the “blackberry” in our house, but many people were excited, so I am excited.
Do you want to know something that really grosses me out… opening a can of cream of __________ soup (the store bought canned version.) I can’t be alone in this right??
Well I’m going to try making it from scratch this week and canning it… Wish me luck… I’ve only canned tomato soup before any helpful hints or recipes to share??
Sweet Chili Pepper
Have you liked “Mommie isn’t made of Money” on Facebook or followed us on Instagram ?? (We are also on twitter but I’m not sure really how to tweet yet 😉 Our First Basket Project for this contribution period was homemade Strawberry Lemonade. It is SO easy.
- On a hamburger/cheeseburger
- Give them to a neighbor/family member/ friend
- Make a sandwich and substitute the lettuce as bread.
It seems that we have a never ending supply of banana’s in our freezer. Mainly because there were many instances when we would buy 3lbs of banana’s at the store then get them in the conventional basket. It is a good thing they freeze so easy, and just put them on the counter to defrost or in the microwave quick.
I added our tomatoes into the batch of Spagetti Sauce that I will be making/ canning later today. But here is another delicious recipe to use with your tomatoes.
Baked Parmesan Tomatoes
2 sliced medium tomatoes 1/3 cup freshly grated parmesan fresh oregano salt n pepper drizzle olive oil over top. bake 450 F for 10 to 15 min.
And there you have it…. Recipe ideas using the produce contributed towards in our Conventional Basket .
